Long, long ago…

I was expertly skilled with bow and knife

I was a valiant warrior…

That was my life

Oh, so long ago…

 

I remember meeting the lovely maiden, wearing a snow white dress

Her name was  Aliceia —I found out later—she was the Royal princess

Her family crest was inscribed on a medallion

And she rode so regally atop a pure white stallion

Purity and chaste, two words to describe her best

She had a good, clean heart; one that’s surely blessed

 

 

Her father’s kingdom was a safe and peaceful place

Until the day that dark and evil shadow flew over the palace

Aliceia was snatched away in those monstrous claws

And the King came to me for help; the winner of wars

He asked me to save his only daughter

And promised marriage to whomever recaught her

I vowed to do it, for so long I had sought her

I will fight to save Aliceia; I am the dragon slayer

 

 

The vile dragon carried Aliceia to its nest deep in the hills

Flying just above the forest his wings blew the leaves from the trees

I followed close on my sturdy steed, carrying with me what I’d need

My strength and my skill, my bow and my sword

My love and my courage, and my faith in the Lord

 

 

I found the dragon’s lair set deep in a cave

To step into this nightmare one must be brave

There was the princess, afraid and praying to be saved

The beast was above her, about to devour

It was a sight to make lesser men cower

But I was God’s chosen one

So I struck at the beast with all of my power

 

 

I knew I’d meet searing agonizing death

From a fiery flash of dragon’s breath

I ducked and I swung; the balance of life hung

No room for it to move; I had everything to prove

And be sure that I didn’t lose

I was taking a chance; stood a warrior’s stance

It was luck and a draw, and off came a claw

The dragon and a knight, a stab and a bite

I was caught off my guard and the dragon hit hard

Aliceia screamed at the sight she saw

For I was caught in the dragon’s great maw

Its teeth encroached within me; I felt an explosion of pain

With my last choking breath in the seconds before death

I plunged my blade up through its mouth, into its brain

 

 

It let out a blood curdling sigh, and the fiend was no more

The dragon was dead; but alas, so was I

I had saved her life and the princess was free

I gave up for her my life; no more of her would I see

 

 

For the rest of you to know, my story did I share

Of the fight to show my care, brave the nightmare I did dare

Now for me say a prayer, the soul of a dragon slayer

I paid my life in the dragon’s lair

Now on the road to heaven; the King of Kings, he paid my fare
